The Premiere of the critically acclaimed movie ‘Beast Of No Nation’ took place in Lagos on Saturday, December 12th 2015 at the prestigious Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos. Yours truly, Bola Aduwo was there and I am yet to find the name to describe the whole experience it! Amazing and awesome do not even cut it. Why? Well, apart from it being a star-studded event, Idris ‘The Heartthrob’ Elba flew in all the way from Hollywood to be there for the event! Check out the lovely exclusive pics!
At first it was a rumour… could he? Will he come for the Lagos premiere? Then people were hopeful but not really sure he would especially as it was already 9pm and the movie was yet to start then, whooosh! He just swept in, surrounded by Silverbird officials & body guards and the whole atmosphere at the Galleria changed! I was struck by how regular and down to earth he was. He really blended with the crowd. All 6ft 4 inches of him. No being stand offish! No ‘Tell the people to talk to my manager’ sort of thing. He really genuinely seemed to enjoy meeting the people. He stood patiently for selfies & pics, hugged people… I mean if I had a good impression of him before, it just went up ten notches. Well, I know he is originally African (His father is Ghanaian & mother, Sierra Leonian) though London bred and based but not surprisingly he was able to blend so easily in a West African crowd. As for his acting & accent in the movie… thats a post for another day! I will give my review later, for now, let me just bask in the euphoria of Idris… Drissy, “Dris, Dri-Dri… which one do you think makes a better nickname? Lol
You know I have to comment on when Genevieve met Idris! A momentous moment, don’t you think? I’m sure they said; ‘I’m a big fan of your movies! and he replies ‘So am I, of yours, I mean! Lol’
It was truly a historic moment when he walked into Silverbird Galleria with the Chairman/CEO, Mr Ben Murray Bruce as well as Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and her family. ‘Beast of No Nation’ the film so expertly directed and shot by Cary Fukunaga was actually adapted from a story written by Okonjo Iweala’s son Uzodinma who was also at the event.
We were also treated to the presence of the young Abraham Attah, the child actor who acted as the protagonist ‘Agu’,. He did very very well in the film To think that was his first movie without formal training is astounding. You guys need to go see the film. The occasion would not have been complete without the presence of our Nollywood stars who came to show their support for the film. Genevieve Nnaji, Adesua Etomi, Yolanda Okereke, Shawn Faqua, Bobby Michaels, Rukky Snda , Enyinna Nwigwe, Deyemi Okanlawon, Uduak Oguamanam, Sambasa Nzeribe, Makida Moka, Nse Ikpe Etim, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Wale Ojo, Damilola Adegbite, Somkele Iyamah, Osas & Gbenro Ajibade… need I say more? Feast your eyes, my people! 🙂
Selfie Time with Idris!
